Cybersecurity Summit 2018

In September 2016, more than 1,000 security professionals packed the Hilton Hotel in Sydney to hear industry and technical speakers share their expertise on a range of cybersecurity topics at the very first Cybersecurity Summit.

Since then, more than 5,500 security professionals across the Asia-Pacific region have attended our technical, industry and executive sessions. The 2016/17 Cybersecurity Summit series helped our customers and partners understand that being breached was a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’ – and that prevention was possible.

Sessions covered a range of diverse subjects to help customers design their prevention strategies. In 2018, the return of the Cybersecurity Summit will leave no doubt that Palo Alto Networks is disrupting the cybersecurity market, helping organisations take advantage of myriad technologies designed to transform their environments safely and securely.

This year’s Cybersecurity Summit in Melbourne will be the biggest event of its kind. Prior to that, he held a number of key positions at Verisign, including serving as chief operating officer, executive vice president of Products and Marketing, and head of the company's Naming Services business. Prior to Verisign, he was the vice president of Sales and Business Development for Signio, a leading internet payment company. Before joining Signio, he was the vice president of Business Development for Gemplus, the world's leading smart-card company. Previous to Gemplus, he also served as general counsel of Caere Corporation and practiced law as an attorney with Cooley Godward Kronish LLP.

For nearly a decade, Mark has had the honor of serving as a member of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), a body that for more than 30 years has brought industry chief executives together to provide counsel on national security policy and technical issues to the U.S. president and national security leadership. Mark has served two-year terms as chairman and vice-chairman of the NSTAC. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law and his B.S. degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

He served as an attack helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army and earned his Airborne Wings. Mark currently serves on the board of directors for Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM).

With over 20 years of experience in the networking and security industries, Scott leads the rapidly growing Global Systems Engineering team for Palo Alto Networks. Outside of the SE team, Scott also started, built, and lead the Service Provider Theater, expanding the focus on routes to market to support customer security needs. Possessing a strong customer-centric background, he has been engaged in technology innovation conversations throughout his career and is seen as a visionary in evolving network architectures as well as having the ability to navigate the emerging relationship between applications, security, and networks—a conversation that is now transitioning into the larger SDN debate. Prior to Palo Alto Networks he spent 14 years at Juniper Networks in various roles predominantly focused on building and leading customer-facing teams. This includes running the EMEA theater, the Worldwide SE Team, the Americas SE teams. Earlier in his career at Redstone Communications, he was the first Systems Engineer in the organization and was responsible for initially building and then leading their SE team. While with Juniper, he also built the Solutions Engineering team in order to create solutions offers that combine Juniper’s portfolio with those of its partners. Additionally, Scott combined all of the training functions within the company into a new integrated education team supporting Sales/SE, Partner, and Customer training.

Scott holds a Masters Degree in Business from Oklahoma City University and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He speaks regularly at industry conferences and is viewed as an industry visionary in the area of IP Service architectures.

Tim has been with VMware for 10 years where he leads networking and security, storage, and cloud management engineering teams across Asia Pacific and Japan. His team works with clients across the region to modernise their datacentres and transform their networking and security, by implementing VMware’s approach of ‘least privilege’ and securely segmented networks using products like NSX to harden IT infrastructure against internal and external threats to data and customer information.

Prior to joining VMware, Tim was the Senior Director Systems Engineering for Asia Pacific and Japan for the Security and Compliance solutions at Symantec. He was also the Senior Technical Director for Asia Pacific and Japan at Symantec for over 14 years, a role in which he was responsible for managing Symantec’s APAC wide enterprise and channel pre-sales organization.

Neil has spent more than 25 years specialising in cyber security and was most recently Group General Manager, Security at Dimension Data, where he spent 14 years in various roles spanning Australia and the UK. Prior to Dimension Data, Neil’s diverse experience included running both boutique and big four consulting teams.

He has deep experience and a proven track record of leading cyber security teams specialised in security consulting, systems integration and managed security services. Neil spent nine years in the Australian Federal Police, with most of his police service in the AFP’s Computer Crime Team.

Dr. Carsten Rudolph Associate professor in the Faculty of IT
at Monash University and Director of the Oceania Cyber Security Centre in Melbourne, Australia

His research concentrates on information security, formal methods, security engineering and cryptographic protocols with a strong focus on hardware-based security and Trusted Computing. Results of his research work have been applied in areas such as critical infrastructures, industry control systems, or certified systems. Among other activities he has worked on a security validation of the Trusted Platform Module TPM 1.2 on behalf of the German BSI and he contributes as invited expert to the standardisation of the TPM in the Trusted Computing Group TCG. His industry co-operations included large companies and many small and medium-sized enterprises. In 2015, he supported Huawei in establishing a Trusted Computing research team in Germany.
